MiniRoos Players Page

MiniRoos is for Boys and Girls Aged 5 –11yrs

MiniRoos is a fun introduction to winter football for young players. As a player progresses through the age groups, the field size increases as well as the number of players on the pitch. This prepares them to eventually move to playing 11v11 football on a full size field. Scroll down for basic Rules and Playing Formats.

The focus is on fun – we want to see happy, smiling players - this is our aim each weekend for our MiniRoos players.

Football at Lindfield FC is team-based, community football. Players generally train with their team once per week from April to August and then play a match on the weekend. LFC do NOT run football classes on Saturday mornings.

Below we have answered many common questions about how community football works. If you are new to football please also read our New Players FAQs page which will help guide you.

Our Age Coordinators are all volunteer parents like yourselves, so please value the precious time they are giving to our football community and please read the information on our website - most answers can be found here. If you still need assistance, you can contact your relevant Age Coordinator (AC) via the email address - Contact Us.

WHEN are games played?

LFC submit teams into the Winter season NSFA MiniRoos competition which runs from April to August.

  • Saturday Mornings: Mixed boys and girls U6–U11 between 8.30am - midday

  • Sunday Mornings: Girls only G6-G11 between 8.30am - midday

  • Lindfield Sports Centre runs the Summer and Autumn, 5 A-side competition on the Clubhouse courts.

Not sure which age group your child should be playing in? Whatever age your child is turning THIS year determines the age group eg if turning 8 will be in U8 or G8. Still not sure check Age Eligibility here.

WHERE are games played?

The Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA) stretches from Brooklyn to North Sydney. For MiniRoos U6-U9 this is split into two zones with Ryde Rd being the rough middle point. Lindfield is based in the southern zone.

  • North: Pymble to Berowra

  • South: Gordon to North Sydney

For a full list of grounds and their address details go to Find A Ground.

As a guide only, the following matches can be expected to be player at:

  • U6 & U7: play at MiniRoos hubs. LFC Home Hubs are at the LFC Clubhouse Courts & Regimental.

  • U8 & U9: play at larger ovals. LFC Home ovals are Redbank (Fiddens Wharf) and Edenborough.

  • U10 & U11: play across the full length of the Association. LFC Home ovals Loyal Henry and Regimental.

  • New Sunday Girls Comp G6 & G7: NSFA have introduced a G6/G7 flexible playing format to provide female players with a positive and fun introduction to the game. The program for LFC operates in the Southern hub, where the girls play at Sunday 9am, location alternating weekly between LFC Clubhouse & Bales Park Chatswood. Young female role models facilitate fun warm up games before they split into small-sided games. The flexible and inclusive nature of the program has seen 50% growth from year 1 to year 2. Format is slightly different to Mixed. More details will be provided at the Welcome to Football morning- click here to book your child’s spot!

How do the Age Groups work?

  • Ages are based on the age your child is turning THIS season.

  • We cater for children aged Under 5* through to Under 18s.

  • We describe these groups as U6, U7, U8 etc for the Saturday Boys and Girls Mixed games and G6, G7, G8 etc for the Girls Only Sunday games. We sometimes also will write eg U/G 6 for a combined training session etc meaning players from both the Sat and Sun comps.

  • Special note, the youngest a child can be is 4 turning 5 yrs in the current season. We cannot take children who turn 4 in the current year.

Welcome Back to Football: Teams & Grading

  • U6 & U7: All New Players are encouraged to attend our Welcome to Football morning - a free ‘Come and Try Football’ session. Kids will meet the coaches and have a kick on the courts. Parents will have the opportunity to have all their questions answered, check out the facilities and purchase uniforms. You must sign up to attend as capacity is limited.
Please click here to find out more and confirm your child’s spot.

  • U6 & U7 Development Squad: if your child is really keen on football and you think they might be talented enough to make the Development Squad please get in touch with your Age Coordinator U6 or U7 to discuss next steps and whether you should sign them up to the development squad grading trial.

  • Friendship Teams: please read the information on how your child can be placed in a friendship team on our Grading & Selection page (scroll down). The closing date for Play with Friends requests is early March!

  • Preseason Friendly Games: as part of our grading & selection process, we organise a number of friendly preseason games to help teams get organised and into the correct division - so watch out for dates for these LFC vs LFC games in March as these happen very soon after team announcements ie quite short notice.

Additional Opportunities

Country Cousins Tour - TBC we need a coordinator for this program to run.

Team spirit is at the heart of what we do at LFC! With that in mind, we have introduced a football regional tour called Country Cousins, for our social teams & development squad players in the U10-U14 age groups. We have found that a fun weekend away, playing the sport you love, is a great team bonding experience for our Development League teams (and their parents) and wish to extend the opportunity to all boys and girls.

Opportunity to play Football for your Primary School

Skellern Cup - Girls

The Skellern Cup is a primary school annual tournament for girls in years 3 to 6. It started in 2017 and has been so successful that it has now expanded to include 700 players from local schools across the region! Amanda and Kim Skellern, our LFC Women’s All Age Coordinators - whom the Cup has been named after, would like to see your school get involved in this year's great day of fun, friendship and football! See what they have to say here.

It takes a team to run a team! Everyone can help across the season, there is a wealth of information on the Parents Page and usually there will be a parent information session before the season kicks off to help you understand what is required. Most kids play football for many seasons, so to be fair, we recommend sharing the various roles across the season and year to year.

I’m still unsure of a few things, who can I talk to?

We would ask you to please bear in mind that some age groups have 150-200 children in them, so it may take a few days at for our volunteer Age Coordinator to get back to you at peak times!

So before you shoot off an email, we kindly request that you first read back through all the above links and information and check the Player Frequently asked Questions page.
